Genre Type: F2P Tower Defense MMO Platform Accessibility: Web Browser Development By: R2 Games In Heroes of the Banner players must defend their land and cities from the devious and dangerous enemies that are spreading across the land with their huge armies of orcs and Demons, calling forth the help of benevolent gods and goddesses of Valhalla and the many Heroes of the realm players may be able to drive back the onslaught of enemies that threaten their people. As a browser-based MMO Heroes of the Banner is easily accessed over a variety of different platforms and is completely free to play after an account registration. The core mechanics revolve around a standard tower defence game, but with more focus put on the Heroes that players are able to summon, where progressing through dozens of different levels and zones enemies will try to navigate a path to reach your village and as the player you must construct different types of towers to destroy them first. On a map the enemies may have multiple routes in which to reach your village, requiring different types of strategy and intelligent placement of key towers; if too many enemies get past your defences and into your village then the battle is lost. Players begin by visiting the Tavern and using a Summoning Scroll to call upon the aid of various Deities and Heroes; depending on the type of scroll used players can have a higher chance of great and rare Heroes answering the call. Each Hero has their own stats and abilities as well as their key signature Tower and ability that can be used in battle and so players get to choose whether they wish to recruit such a Hero into their party. Prior to a battle players choose which of their assembled Heroes they wish to use for the battle and are able to upgrade the towers that each individual Hero can construct, as well as changing the type of attack that a tower can perform, giving even more options and tactics. Once a battle has begun players are unable to modify, move or destroy their own towers and so they must think ahead with their strategy when placing them; however they are granted powerful area attack spells by their chosen deity that can be unleashed upon the gathered waves of enemies. As players progress through the game they will earn XP and gold both from their battles as well as from completing various quests that are constantly available to shower players with extra rewards. XP will primarily be used to give players access to new features and functions whereas gold is used to upgrade their chosen Heroes making them more powerful in battle as well as their towers. During the game players will occasionally face off against powerful enemies that if destroyed can drop powerful items and weapons as loot, this gear can then be equipped by particular Heroes to make them even more powerful when facing off against the armies of darkness.
