Anime Pirates is an adaptation of the popular Japanese Manga anime One Piece, a world where pirates battle against both each other and the World Governments alongside the Marine. In the game players are responsible for building up their own crew from dozens of potential crewmates and adventuring across a huge world in search of the lost treasure horde of Gol D. Roger as well as rumours of a Pirate that has knowledge of an ancient weapon that could lead to the end of the world! The game is a free to play MMORPG and can be accessed directly through your preferred web browser, but also has a client download option for Windows, Mac and Linux.

When first setting sail players get to choose from six main characters/classes is the captain of their ship: the Sword Woman, the Magician, the Warrior, the Gunner, the Archer and the Summoner, each having their own combat abilities and background that can be further explored in the game. Alongside your primary character players are able to recruit over 70 different NPC is to join your crew, each having their own stats, talents and powerful abilities. Some NPC’s are known as Role Crew and can be recruited at any time, whereas others are Fame Crew and require players to acquire Fame Points, which can be acquired through more challenging features such as PVP Arena and fighting World Bosses, which they then spend to purchase the new crew.

Once recruited to a players Crew Roster they are able to organise their NPC’s into a Battle Formation for when they enter combat, by strategically arranging NPC’s in a variety of different formations (that the player must unlock as they level up) they can optimise different abilities and strategies. Not only do certain formations give special bonuses such as higher physical or magical defences or attacks, but also individual NPC’s will unlock their own powerful Abilities if they are in a specific position within the formation. Some characters such as Jabura open up their physical Ten Showdown ability in one position, but gain access to their critical Iron Wolves Ability if in other positions, whereas a character like Yorki gains both his Chop and Whale Slash abilities when in the same position; this requires a lot of strategic thinking for the player when organising their Battle Formation to optimise their tactics.

There are a number of different features within the game for players to engage in such as Harbour Attack, to World Bosses (with the Punk Dragon and the Kraken) which focus on PVP and rewarding players with various gifts, gems and huge amounts of XP. Players can also fight against each other in the Arena during which players are given five different potential player opponents within their level range to challenge and if they defeat them they will gain XP, Fame and Favour and should the defeated player be of a higher rank then you can also take their position as players will earn rewards passively based on how high their rank is.
