Development By: Jagex Ltd

In RuneScape players can explore the exciting world of Gielenor in this free to play MMORPG that can be played directly in your web browser that gives players the chance to create completely customisable characters using a skill-based characters system and a wide variety of classic and unique races to choose from as they adventure across a huge sandbox realm that has been established and expanded upon for over a decade. In RuneScape players can focus on being a mighty warrior seeking out evil on epic adventures, look for a more simple life as a crafter helping to ply their trade and provide to those daring explorers heading off into the wilds.

There are 14 different races to choose from, from fantasy staples such as Elves, Humans, Dwarves, to lesser used races such as Controls, Vampyres and even Ogres to those that are completely unique to the game and its lore such as the volcanic TzHaar and the fearsome Mahjarrat. Aside from the primary races there are a number of lesser known races as well as a wide variety of extinct races that have been destroyed and wiped out over the various Ages that have passed and the wars that they have brought to the world.

As well as creating their own character Avatar players will primarily customise their characters using the skill-based system, where from a list of 26 different skills players can advance skills simply by using them consistently (though skill games are harder to acquire when the skill is already at a higher level). Nine skills are limited if playing on a free to play account and one skill is only accessible if a paying/subscribed member. The skill themselves fall into a variety of different categories based on their primary focus (Combat, Gathering, Support, Artisan) and a wide number of skills are able to improve others where whilst Fishing may aid Cooking, Cooking does not directly help in Fishing.

Combat comes in two primary forms based on the old Legacy system and the new Evolution of Combat (EoC) system that was introduced and players are able to choose whichever system they prefer, though the same principles of Combat Level and the Combat Styles (Ranged, Melee, Magic) will still play a significant role as to how well you perform in battle. Players will engage in combat most often with NPC’s and AI monsters and creatures during quests and dungeon Raids. PVP is also an option and there are even established PVP worlds where players are able to fight against each other providing they are outside of safe areas and if they managed to kill their opponent they are able to loot their items off their corpse and keep them.

There are a variety of quests, Challenges and Minigames to keep players entertained outside of the typical combat focused gameplay, as well as a long list of Achievements that players can earn, which will as often as not provide them with added bonuses and rewards.
